1.Her mother: dead due to the plague.
2.A once famous father: almost mad and completly immersed in scandal.
3.A newly married brother: completly gone from her life.

These are the challenges that Cornelia faces since the novel begins. In a way, its a story about the challenges every teenager faces while coming of age. The author gave really good imagery and really depicted this painter's life in a really interesting yet new light. Cornelia must learn to be able to step out of her father's shadow and find love in unexpected places just when things seem to fall apart. There was a very interesting twist that you wouldn't really expect. For all of those people that love historical fiction as much as I do, not to mention suspense and subtle love triangles, this is the book for you.
