Elizabeth George Speare must have used magic to write this amazing novel. This book undergoes so many different emotions and issues, it is a wonder that it didn't just turn into psychologist.

This spellbinding novel takes place around the 1690's. The story is Kit Tyler's, the now homeless, orphaned girl, who moves to New England to live with relatives who are strangers to her. Hardly anyone accepts her, for she is very different and contradictory their bland, strict lifestyle. But one, old, misunderstood woman does. They find friendship. But when her new friend is accused of being a witch, Kit must save her. The townspeople accuse Kit of witchcraft and put her on trial. The man who claimed he loved her wouldn't save her. Who was left?

This novel was wonderful. It brought me to tears on a particulary adorablbe scene between her handsome friend and herself. I stayed up all night reading it; I couldn't set it down.

Overall, a catching book that won't let you go until you've finished.
