Gilt is a book that revoles around freindship, the history of King Henry the VII, the hardships of living as a girl/women during the 1540s and life in the palace. Kitty Tyleny is mostly an orphan since her parents don't really care about her and she lives as a servant for a duchess. But while there, Kitty meets a freind named Cat, who's pretty, confident, and with her last as a Howard, she has the chance of becoming rich and going to court. When Cat and Kitty are together, they're inseparble, but when Cat gets the chance of being a lady in waiting for the Queen, Kitty is left alone, but only a promise that Cat will come back for her. And a year goes by and she does, but who knew, Cat became the Queen by that time. And with both girls at court, problems start to unfold, and an unwanted ending comes closer.
