This book is the tale of a a teen named Astrid and her strong willed artist/poet mother. When her mother kills a boyfriend and is imprisoned Astrid is thrown into California's foster care system. There she experiences terrible abuse, ignorance and different kinds of love. Her journey begins while struggling with her anger with her mother for abandoning her and trying to survive while growing up.
