Starring Carey Mulligan (as Jenny) and Peter Sarsgaard (as David), "An Education" is about an elite schoolgirl's romance with an older man and how she got "an education" from that experience. The movie is based off of Lynn Barber's (an English journalist) coming-of-age memoir of the same title.

Warning: *Spoilers* ahead
It all starts with Jenny walking home in the pouring rain from her violin practice. Not too long after, a man driving named David offers to put her violin in the car while she walks. Then, Jenny decides to let David drive her home and realizes that they share common interests in violin, English literature, French culture, and etcetera. They them fall in love and Jenny gets very distracted. She even feels compelled to drop out of high school, forget about going to Oxford (her dream college), and getting her parents and teachers out of her way just so she can be with David. But not too long after she decides to drop out, shocking scandalous news (of David) happens and makes the last decision she made look stupid. And at the end, all ends well and it is best to watch the movie for yourself.

I see the "education" in "An Education" and maybe you will see it differently than I will. Also, I find that a relationship involving a young woman and an older man usually does not work so I did not find it that unusual for Jenny and David's to as well. Carey Mulligan is in her breakout role in this movie and proved her Oscar Nomination right.

One thing I did not like about this movie is how awkward it sounded in some parts. Also, I thought her parents were ignorant of the fact that David is an older man and how they only noticed the Oxford-educated, scholarly part of him.

So if you want to find out what the "scandalous" thing that was a wake-up call for Jenny is, I suggest you go and watch the movie.
